Elaine McCahill, Reach PLC

Shortlisted
Read more
Over the past year, Elaine has played a pivotal role in enhancing the Mirror’s newsletter portfolio — both by strengthening existing offerings and launching new ones informed by data and audience insights. Their strategic use of analytics has led to a significant increase in page views and subscriber growth, reflecting their sharp editorial instincts and collaborative leadership style. Leading a team of six, they focus not only on producing high-quality, engaging content, but also on fostering a strong culture of inclusivity and collaboration. Through cross-promotion, multimedia integration, and interactive formats like reader polls and “Have Your Say” articles, their efforts have directly contributed to tens of thousands of new newsletter sign-ups. Their understanding of how to turn casual readers into engaged, loyal subscribers — and how to use newsletters as a powerful tool for both editorial and commercial impact — showcases exactly what this award is about. Their work exemplifies how newsletters can serve as both a vehicle for trusted journalism and a driver of digital innovation, making them a standout candidate for this recognition.

Frankie Goodway, The Bureau of Investigative Journalism

Shortlisted
Read more
As New Formats Editor at TBIJ, Frankie has led TBIJ to launch a second weekly newsletter and developed a plan for a third, monetised offering. She did the research that led to TBIJ switching ESP from Mailchimp to Beehiiv, and have produced work arguing for a move to limited advertising and sponsorship on our existing products, which has recently been approved. TBIJ's work has often been siloed by theme or project - Frankie built a Spark team that includes members from across the editorial strands. It's truly collaborative, both within the newsroom and with other news organisations across the world. In a space often marked by competition, she's created a space that celebrates the good all journalism can do and make a case for why our work should be supported and celebrated.

Georgia Chambers, The i Paper

Shortlisted
Read more
Georgia has been the driving force behind The i Paper’s newsletter growth, single-handedly leading much of the charge over the last few years. In her role she has built and maintained a portfolio of more than 25 newsletters, building audience loyalty to verticals ranging from cricket to housing. Between August 2020 and April 2025 the number of readers signed up to newsletters has grown 250%. As the go-to expert in the newsroom for all things newsletters, Georgia has played a crucial role in training and supporting teams, solving technical challenges, and spearheading audience growth. Georgia's determination and hard work in growing The Essential has led to newsletters increasingly becoming a key part of conferences and editorial commissioning. Every newsletter she puts together is carefully curated, and she's consistently brimming with ideas on how to improve the content, design and promotion of the different newsletters across our portfolio.

Harry Byford, The Knowledge

Shortlisted
Read more
Harry Byford is the Editor of The Knowledge - a daily newsletter with a simple mantra: read less, know more. Harry, with his team of two, scours the world’s media – newspapers, magazines, podcasts, social media - and amidst this vast sea of content, he unerringly spots the most interesting and entertaining pieces stories. He then distils them into a word-perfect five-minute read. All against the clock. Harry is the king of brevity: most pieces run to a maximum of 100 words, or 250 for the comment pieces. I challenge you to find a wasted word or superfluous word in the newsletter on any given day. He also gets to the kernel of complex geopolitical pieces as well as identifying the most compelling stories about whatever’s going viral on TikTok. Another is his positivity: we try to steer clear of the doom and gloom that pervades much of the media and Harry’s gentle humour is threaded throughout the entire newsletter, down to the choice of the memorable quote he selects to end each newsletter.
