Publisher Newsletter Hero of the Year 2026

Here are some of the industry's driving forces shaping publisher newsletter strategies and inspiring others in the newsletter sphere.

Athena Chrysanthou, The Times and Sunday Times

Shortlisted
About
Athena has been directly responsible for key strategic and editorial achievements. Her accomplishments include authoring and creating the US newsletter, spearheading the highly successful Tennis and award-winning Wimbledon newsletters, authoring the Daily and Weekly Briefing, successfully relaunching 32 newsletter products, and driving the launch of new newsletters. Over the last six months she has been in an expanded role to include support of developing and executing our newsletter strategy as a more senior level. Athena has provided hands-on support and platform training to every new newsletter author, serving as a champion and advocate for newsletters across the newsroom. This advocacy has successfully transformed the perception of newsletters from a marginalised task into a sought-after opportunity that writers approach with excitement, curiosity, and weekly dedication.

Benjamin Clark, Prospect

Shortlisted
About
Benjamin is a talented journalist, digital content producer and audience strategist—but particularly, over the last year he has cemented newsletter writing and curation as one of his core skills. Our daily newsletter, Lightbulb, which he leads, has been his most impactful contribution to Prospect as a media outlet. Ben was the principal writer and curator of Lightbulb from its inception in October 2024 until March 2026, at which time we hired an additional newsletter writer, Kathryn Schoon, who now shares Lightbulb responsibilities. For the vast majority of the judgement period, however, Ben wrote and curated the newsletter alone with only occasional fill-in writers when he was sick or on leave. Prior to launch, Ben also conceived of the newsletter and managed its launch. Given the success of Lightbulb, we believe Ben is deserving of recognition as an industry leader for his outstanding work. His writing is consistently of excellent quality; he frequently draws connections between stories and resurfaces archive material which demonstrates impressive editorial judgement and curation skills; and finally, his strategic nous in launching Lightbulb and growing its audience has helped Prospect increase readership and the depth of our readers’ engagement with our journalism.

Harry Byford, The Knowledge

Shortlisted
About
Harry celebrated his fourth year as editor of The Knowledge in January. Over that period the daily newsletter’s readership has grown exponentially, as well as a significant number of paying subscribers and a profitable ads business. And Harry has been integral in every part of that. His main job is overseeing the editorial team, which – somewhat implausibly for a daily newsletter with so many readers – consists of only three people. Every day, he and his colleagues, Charlie and Imogen, read through hundreds of different sources to find the best material. He chooses what goes in, writes or edits every word of every edition, and selects every picture or gif. But that’s just his main job. Harry also plays a key role in marketing decisions, business strategy and subscriber retention.

Naomi Joseph, The Conversation

Shortlisted
About
At The Conversation, we publish evidence‑based news and analysis written by academic experts and researchers so the public can engage with ideas that matter. Naomi has an extraordinary gift for taking those thoughtful, often complex academic perspectives and turning them into curated newsletters that genuinely resonate with our readers – helping them choose the best arts and culture to enjoy in their precious free time. Under Naomi’s stewardship, Something Good has become much more than a cultural round‑up. Her thoughtful curation, clear storytelling and editorial judgement ensure every edition delivers a rich blend of insight and recommendation. She makes nuanced research accessible, approachable and relevant to everyday life – giving readers something new to bring to watercooler conversations about films, books, TV, theatre and more. Naomi also embodies what makes our newsletter community special. She listens, adapts and responds to our audience’s interests with warmth and curiosity, fostering connection through every issue. Her creativity, dedication and genuine care for our readers make her an outstanding newsletter editor and a very worthy Newsletter Hero.
